Financial and Other Assistance

Grainger Engineering Ph.D. students in their first five years of enrollment are guaranteed a tuition-waiving appointment for fall and spring, which includes a full tuition waiver, a partial fee waiver, and a monthly stipend. Students are also eligible for summer support. Students must remain in Good Academic Standing (see the Graduate College Handbook, Part I, Chapter 3.2) and successfully perform the duties of their assistantships to maintain this GCOE guarantee.

Fellowships

Awarded in Recognition of Scholarly Achievement and enables student to pursue graduate study without rendering services.  Fellowships come with stipend and many include or are supplemented with a tuition waiver.

Merge Campus Visit Program

Each fall, the Merge Campus Visit Program provides an opportunity for students with various experiences and goals, and who come from many educational, socio-cultural, geographic, and familial backgrounds to explore and consider Grainger Engineering graduate programs. The Merge Campus Visit Program supports prospective students through pre-application seminars, program-specific connections, and campus visits. All Merge Program participants are eligible for an application fee waiver when applying to a Grainger Engineering graduate program.

Research and Teaching Assistants

Graduate student pay is calculated on a % time basis. A greater than 50% time appointment means 20hrs/wk research or TA duties. RA and TAs receive a full tuition waiver for 25% - 67% appointment. They will also receive a monthly stipend.  

The Grainger Engineering Ph.D. Commitment
